Built in 1922, the Gymnasium is also known as the War Memorial, as it carries the names of fallen Academicals on its solid outer walls. Though austere on the outside, an elevated position brings light into the building through its many windows. Reached by a flight of stone steps and through a heavy studded wooden door, this is an impressive and flexible space that can be dressed and tailored to any sporting or social event.

  • Half moon windows above dark part-timbered walls and a pale hardwood floor.
  • Capped with angled glazed panels along the length of the building.
  • The words ‘Pro Patria’ - ‘For one’s country’ - sit above the entrance to the Gym, alongside a list of the names of fallen Academicals from the First World War.
