Your child will be taught new riding and navigation skills as they explore Glentress, Beecraigs and Yair and Elibank Forests on Mountain Bike Camp. The camp starts with a day at the Academy assessing skills and looking at basic bike maintenance before hitting forest and park graded trails and free-ride areas. Guaranteed to wear your children out!

The week starts with warm-up biking exercises and an assessment of skills, with some activities at the Arboretum Road site, then moves on to day trips across the Lothians and Borders. Drop off and pick up is at the Arboretum Road site, with transport to other sites provided by mini-bus. 

Day 1: Arboretum Road - assessing skills / activities / bike maintenance.
Day 2: Glentress Forest - skills and thrills in a local mountain biking mecca!
Day 3: Beecraigs Country Park - more skills and a graded mountain bike loop.
Day 4: Glentress Forest - focus on navigation skills.
Day 5: Tweed Valley Forest Park - navigation of a circular route in Yair and Elibank.  

Mountain Bike Camp will be led by Gavin Calder, Head Teacher of Edinburgh Academy Junior School. He is President of Triathlon Scotland, an Ironman triathlete and has led biking camps and expeditions for the last 25 years. He is thrilled to share his passion for outdoor activity with everyone on the Camp. 

Your own bike, which must be in roadworthy condition, helmet, clothing suitable for cycling – ideally covering arms and legs, plus gloves if you have them. 

A backpack that is large enough to hold clothing, water and snacks, sunscreen for sunny days, lunch, water and snacks.
